THE ISSUES

While Cambodia has made huge strides in rebuilding itself and reducing poverty since the devastation caused by the genocide of the 1970s it still has a long way to go. Economic growth has been impressive in recent years but this measure of poverty masks the true status of many. Inequality is becoming more extreme, UNDP estimating that 35% of Cambodians are still living in multi dimensional poverty and a further 20% at danger of falling back in. Lack of access to clean water, basic healthcare, sufficient nutrition and primary education are a constant reality faced by the poorest in the population. Without access to these things it is near impossible to lift yourself from poverty. This is the reality of the poverty trap.

This is where non-profits like Help The Cambodian Children (HTCC) are able to make a tremendous impact. Since its inception in 2003 HTCC has worked to provide Cambodian children with the tools for success. In 2004 the Goodwill Centre was built, and since then has grown into a multifaceted community centre, also now registered in Cambodia as Bomnong L’or meaning “goodwill”. Our work over is making a vital difference in the fight against poverty in our area. In one generation we now have children with illiterate parents going on to attend university and have successful careers. We are battling health issues and stinted growth from malnutrition daily. We need your help continuing the fight. Please follow this link to our donation page and give what you can!
